Dischidia platyphylla is a fascinating epiphytic plant belonging to the Apocynaceae family and native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia .

Unlike Dischidia nummularia and its cousin Dischidia nummularia blanc , Dischidia platyphylla grows relatively slowly and appreciates stable maintenance conditions.

Dischidia platyphylla has fleshy, thick, oval leaves, often arranged in opposite pairs along the stems. The leaves are usually bright green, but can take on paler shades depending on light conditions.

Maintenance and cultivation of Dischidia platyphylla

Light

Place Dischidia platyphylla in a bright location, but avoid direct sunlight. Filtered or indirect light is best. An east or west facing window is ideal.

Temperature

Keep the plant at a constant temperature between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C.

Watering

Dischidia prefer moderate and regular watering. Wait until the substrate is dry on top before watering, then water so as to moisten the substrate well, but avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot.

Humidity

Like many epiphytic plants, Dischidia platyphylla prefers relatively high humidity.

Fertilization

Fertilize the plant with a balanced fertilizer (10-10-10) diluted to half strength approximately every 4 to 6 weeks during the spring and summer. Reduce the frequency during the fall and winter as with all other plants!

Repotting

Dischidia platyphylla has a compact root system and does not usually require frequent repotting. Repot only when the plant is -really- cramped in its pot.
